Why We Founded SKIN UNION

Cathy: Before I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I had spent decades building and leading skincare brands (Jo Malone, La Mer) including helping to develop an oncology care program for some of the country’s leading cancer centers. You would have thought that all of my experience would have prepared me for what chemo and radiation might do to my skin.

It didn’t.

Suddenly, I didn’t recognize my own skin—or know how to take care of it. And if it was this hard for me, I knew it was far too hard for everyone else.

Kristen: When Cathy came to me for help, we had already worked together for years. As a product developer, I knew skincare. And with my mother and both of my grandmothers having been diagnosed with cancer, I knew how much uncertainty comes with treatment.

But finding products Cathy could feel confident using was much harder than it should have been. There were too many questions and not enough clear answers.
Cathy: Kristen helped me figure out what I could safely use on my skin during treatment.

But we kept coming back to the same thought: Why was this something every patient had to figure out for themselves?

Kristen: So we set out to create the skincare support we couldn’t find: effective, affordable, and made specifically for skin compromised by cancer treatment.
